Hi, it's me again
(seems like I will have to open my own message board
for my messages alone very soon...:-)

after a post from JW, who could run PandemoniumII and Croc
on his SII 4MB but not Ignition/Bleifuss Fun or Motorhead,
I found the problem with these games...
Here is the answer I sent him, it may pertain to
your situation as well:

Hi again,

I just took a second look into your logfile, and now I think I know at least the problem with
Ignition: your 4MB card is too small to handle all textures (I have a 8MB Thriller)!!!
The reason for this is simple: Ignition uses paletted textures (1 byte per pixel/texel)
and since Rendition doesn't support paletted textures (only with 16 colors, useless!)
the wrapper has to convert/expand the textures into another format (2 byte per pixel/texel)
The typical 3dfx configuration has 2MB texture memory. So a game with paletted textures,
which uses almost all Glide texture memory (without memory check...) would need about
4MB texture cache on the Verite...You have only roughly 3MB texture cache and it
is used up during texture allocation....

This is major problem for all 4MB card users!
Motorhead may have the same problem (it uses both paletted and not paletted textures),
will take a look into it...

To come over this problem, I will add a special 'compatibility mode' into the wrapper,
which converts paletted textures into the Verite 332 (RGB) bit mode - but don't expect
nice graphics from this!....
You should rather buy a 8MB card - only a joke, of course, because you
could buy a DDDFX card for the same money.... ;-)
